A Day on the River with KAWA

More about us…

Most of us live in Waterloo and put in at New Athens Marina and ride down to Waterstreet Bar & Grill. That is our mid-day stop for a drink and some liquid courage before we ride back up the river.  We look for the good water to wakeboard, wakeskate and kneeboard on.  On the weekends, it becomes harder to find the glassy water that we love to ride on.   When we have a rider fall, we avoid doing POWER TURN AROUNDS when returning to the fallen rider.  We avoid doing power turns so we do not send a roller down the river that a rider could hit.

We have three different boats, so far in KAWA.  The flagship is Jason’s 21 foot 2006 Mobius LS.  He has placed 1600 lbs of ballast weight and a rockin sound system.  The wake is huge.

Filling in as the oldest boat is the Ries’ 1992 18 foot Maxum.  It may seem that this is an old boat, but you would never guess its age by the looks of it.  Their maintenance has kept the boat in an amazing condition.  Even though the wake is fairly small, it provides a good wake to learn on and a great boat for a good time.

The third boat is the cruise liner/party barge and that is Nobbe’s 2004 28 foot Sea Ray.  His boat provides a decent wake and can hold a small party on board. His sound system rocks the river and can be heard before you see the boat.
