In the beginning…
KAWA was formed while hanging out at Smitty’s Marina in the dead of winter. The three of us were talking about the past summer and how we met on the river.
It all started early summer of 2009 while leaving the cove on the river with the rope swing. We were on a “like-new” 1992 Maxum and the wake is good enough for us, but is small compared to any wakeboard boat. John and I saw a dude wakeskating for the first time and were blown away because none of us had ever wakeskated before. When he fell and climbed back into the boat, we cruised over and John asked the complete stranger for a pull to kneeboard behind his 2006 Mobius LS. After some small talk to get to know each other, I climbed in the boat to ride along on Jason’s Mobius while John jumped in the water to kneeboard. Before that time Jason had never pulled a kneeboard or even rode one and with the 1600lbs of ballast weight John flew over the wakes. We all had a blast that afternoon and that was the start of an awesome summer.
Simply asking for a pull a group of boaters was formed. That inspired us to form a group with a purpose to get to know other riders and boaters. We are all out there because there is nothing better than riding on the river with all your friends and your boating buddies.
